Suspect Arrested in Antioch Sexual Assault of 13-Year-Old Girl: Police

A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a wanted man while walking to school in Antioch last week, according to police.

The girl was walking on West 10th Street at J Street on Sept. 6 just before 8 a.m. when Bernard Cain, a 34-year-old resident of Antioch, allegedly approached her and began a conversation.

According to police, at some point during the walk Cain grabbed the girl by the wrist and forced her closer before sexually assaulting her.

The girl was able to break free, and ran to her school where she told school officials who immediately contacted police.

Police said the girl gave officers a description of her attacker, and they were able to quickly locate and arrest Cain in the area without incident.

Cain was also wanted for allegedly attempting to lure a 14-year-old girl into his vehicle near the intersection of West 10th Street and L Street earlier this year.

That victim quickly ran home and told her mother about the incident. The next day they saw Cain in the area and contacted police, but officers said they were unable to locate Cain at that time.

Cain remains in custody at the Contra Costa County Jail on suspicion of committing a lewd or lascivious act on a child as well as annoying or molesting a child.
