Family and friends of Brett Olson are planning to hold a candle light vigil Tuesday evening in Lafayette for the 20-year-old found Sunday in the Sacramento River.
The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. at Acalanes High School, where Olson had graduated before starting Cal Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
His two younger siblings attend the high school now.
Olson had gone tubing with thousands of other Cal Poly students over the Labor Day weekend, near where his body was found near the Butte-Glenn county line. He never returned from that river excursion.
Since then, 100,000 had joined a Let's Bring Brett Home Facebook page, and sent countless tweets out, in the hopes of finding the young man. On Friday, family friends hosted a fundraiser at a burrito shop in Lafayette, to help his parents defray the costs of staying in a hotel near the search.
After Brett's body was found Sunday, his parents, Michael and Liz Olson wrote this message:
Dearest Facebook friends,
You all are our friends now. There are not words to describe how moved we have been by everything all of you have done for us. You filled us with hope and love this week which we will carry with us for the res of our lives. the last time our son Brett was seen was about 4pm one week ago today. We are thinking that at about 4pm today, please pause and give a hug to someone close or send one to our son. May that bring each of you, and Brett, a feeling of hope, love, peace, and strength.
