Free Stern Grove Festival Season Announced

Peabo Bryson, Jeffery Osborne, and Ziggy Marley will all perform at the alfresco setting during the upcoming months.

WHILE SUNDAY EVENINGS... are sometimes deemed as challenging, as we wrap up our weekend pursuits, pack our lunches for the days ahead, do our laundry, and, if we're seriously up and at 'em, tidy our homes, Sunday afternoon attracts no such labels or brow-furrowing. And a Sunday afternoon in the summertime? It's like it arrives with the scent of a breeze surrounding it and the distinct hue of sunshine. Call it the most relaxed point in our seven-day cycle, if you like, as many people have spent the weekend unwinding, only to have reached the zenith of unwinding-a-tude by Sunday afternoon. So to have a free concert added to that sense of joy, peace, and relaxation is a gift, but you don't have to look too far nor wide for this particular present: You can find it at Sigmund Stern Grove, each Sunday at 2 o'clock beginning on Sunday, June 17. The 2018 line-up for this venerable free series, a festival that's been around for eight decades, was just revealed in early May, and you can peruse it now. Highlights of the upcoming Stern Grove Festival include appearances by...

PEABO BRYSON & JEFFERY OSBORNE, the season openers on June 17, and Ziggy Marley and Flavia Coelho the following Sunday, June 24. Mexican Institute of Sound, Anoushka Shankar, Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes are all on the roster, too, as well as several more great artists and acts. There are ten Sunday shows in all, as well as a bevy of programs and outreach events, including KidStage happenings, plus a caboodle of other summer-sweet to-dos happening in the grove. And while the freeness of the Sunday shows is certainly very sweet, it also means that spots can fill up, so take the first-come, first-served idea to heart before setting out, with your picnic blanket, for 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard.
