AT&T Dead Last in Consumer Reports Survey

Provider takes a beating in the latest report

AT&T has been rated as the worst U.S. cell carrier, according to Consumer Reports.

More than 58,000 readers participated in the magazine's survey, which rated U.S. Cellular as the No. 1 cell provider with 82 points. AT&T was dead last with a cumulative score of 60 points. The second-to-last carrier, T-Mobile, scored a 69.

The low rating isn't exactly a surprise, as AT&T is a favorite punching bag for bloggers (see: here, here and here).

In the carrier's defense -- as the Wall Street Journal notes -- AT&T has spent $2 billion this year to strengthen its network. The company and its bandwidth have been under constant criticism since partnering with Apple as the exclusive iPhone service provider.

"We take this seriously and we continually look for new ways to improve the customer experience," said AT&T in a statement.

The survey will be featured in the magazines January 2011 issue.
