Pastor Brings Stripper Pole to Church

“We don't sugarcoat anything," pastor says

An Ohio pastor is putting a stripper pole on the pulpit to aid his sermons on sex.

Pastor Mike Scruggs, of Light of Word Ministries in White Oak, said preaching with a neon pink pole and a bed on stage is his way of keeping his worship services “relevant” and “straightforward.”

“We don't sugarcoat anything," he told WLWT-TV in Cincinnati. Past church discussions have covered drugs, relationships and other topics that his parishioners “are dealing with on a day-to-day basis,” he said.

The pole isn’t the only prop Scruggs plans to use for a series of sermons he calls the “Battle of the Sexes.”

Scruggs will scatter money, lingerie and high heels near the pole and also plans to depict video games and sports on the “men’s” side of the pulpit, the U.K. Daily Mail reported.

There will be a “women’s” side of the pulpit as well that is “orderly, neat” and "all about love, candy, teddy bears, roses and being wined and dined and cherished," Scruggs told WLWT.

The sermons are reportedly aimed at getting married couples to have more sex. Taking a page from his book "Sexperiment: 7 Days to Lasting Intimacy With Your Spouse," Scruggs will advocate his parishioners try having sex every day for a week, the Mail reported.

The pastor readily admits he’s the type to push the envelope, but said his mother belongs to the church and approves of his unorthodox methods.
