Paris Hilton caught a big break following her recent brush with the law.
The hotel heiress, who was busted on a cocaine possession charge in Las Vegas Aug. 27, has reached a plea deal agreement according to Clark County District Attorney David Roger yesterday, The Associated Press reported. Hilton will serve a year of probation and avoid a felony conviction.
In a plea agreement obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Hilton has consented to plead guilty to two misdemeanors: drug possession and obstructing an officer. The socialite will also participate in a drug abuse program, perform 200 community service hours, and pay a $2,000 fine.
Both the district attorney and Hilton's lawyer confirmed the deal that was reported by the Review-Journa. Roger said Hilton can face the consequences if she violates the agreement.
"If she is arrested for anything besides a minor traffic violation she will spend a year in jail," Roger said. "There will be no discussion. The court will have no discretion."
"Ms. Hilton understands the seriousness of the situation," Chesnoff told the AP, "and appreciates the chance she is being given. She has to stay out of trouble."
The case stems from Hilton and boyfriend Cy Watts being stopped by police in an Escalade after a smell of marijuana smoke. Authorities later discovered that Hilton had 0.8 grams of cocaine, which fell out of her purse when she reached out for lip balm.

Hilton has been banned from two Wynn resorts as a result of her arrest.
