New Apps Offer Serious, Fun Looks at Government

New iPhone apps let users stay in touch with the White House and play a bailout game

Want to stream live video from the White House? There's an app for that. How about run a government bailout? There's an app for that, too.

Two new apps that give users an inside look at the government in very different ways are now available through iTunes.

The White House App delivers content from WhiteHouse.gov directly to your iPhone. So you can watch the President's public events at the White House, Web chats with administration officials, and key speeches and press briefings in real time. You can even watch the president's State of the Union speech next week from your cell phone. Plus you can see behind the scenes photos and watch on demand videos. And the app is free.

If you want to have a little fun, the iBailout app lets you run your own government bailout. The producers of the app, Hands-On-Mobile, said you run around eating money and chasing angry citizens. Then the people turn into bloodthirsty Fed-hunting mobs and chase you down with torches, pitchforks and baseball bats. You then have to declare martial law. Yikes! The game's trailer also includes clips of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio).  All for $1.99.
