Understanding Democrats' position in passing GOP funding bill

The Senate approved a six-month funding bill on Friday to prevent a government shutdown, just hours before the midnight deadline. This decision followed a dramatic 48-hour period in which Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., diverged from most House and Senate Democrats by announcing his support for the bill, despite having declared the previous day that it lacked sufficient votes.
