The Oakland Athletics infield is looking more like a trauma ward these days. Just after announcing that third baseman Eric Chavez's career could be in jeopardy, again, the team claimed left-hander Craig Breslow off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and transferred second baseman Mark Ellis to the 60-day disabled list.
Oakland said Wednesday it will make an additional move to clear a spot on the 25-man roster when Breslow reports to the team.
Breslow went 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA in 17 relief appearances for the Twins this season.
Ellis was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 29 with a strained left calf. He has a .206 batting average with two doubles and nine RBIs in 18 games this season.
