In a city not too far from Green Bay, Wisconsin a tiny contingent of football fans will be rooting for the San Francisco 49ers this Saturday night when they meet the Packers at Candlestick Park.
They are family members of 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin until he was four and his family moved to California. Extended family remain in Wisconsin.
His Aunt Pat Kaepernick lives and works in nearby New London, Wisconsin and says Colin started out life as a Packers fan.
She has a photo of young Colin and her son Brett posing outside Lambeau Field in their Brett Favre No. 4 jerseys.
"Quiet, reserved, confident – he always has got hugs, always hugs for the family," said Pat Kaepernick when she was asked to describe her nephew's demeanor. She said he also has a dry, playfully sarcastic side that he readily uses.
And while Kaepernick may have grown up as a Packers fan, he's not the only one of the field this week that has switched alliances.
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers cheered for the 49ers as a boy. Rodgers grew up in Chico, about 3 hours northeast of San Francisco.
