Jim Harbaugh took to Twitter Monday afternoon to clarify his remarks on Colin Kaepernick.
"I apologize for misspeaking my true sentiments. To clarify, I support Colin's motivation. It's his method of action that I take exception to," Harbaugh tweeted.
The former 49er head coach said earlier Monday that he does not respect how Colin Kaepernick has gone about staging his controversial protest.
Speaking to reporters who cover Michigan’s football team, Harbaugh said of Kaepernick, "I acknowledge his right to do it. But I don't respect the motivation or the action."
Harbaugh was widely considered Kaepernick’s biggest supporter within the 49ers organization during their four seasons together.
Kaepernick’s relationship with high-ranking members of the 49ers appears fractured from numerous events that have transpired over the past year.
Kaepernick has taken a seat on the team’s bench during the playing of the national anthem before each of the 49ers’ first three exhibition games. He said on Sunday he is taking a stand against police brutality and the country’s oppression of minorities.
