In recent seasons, the San Francisco 49ers have had to endure some exhausting travel schedules.
In 2013, the 49ers flew some 33,000 miles. That included a trip to London to play the Jaguars. It was the most arduous schedule in the NFL by nearly 6,000 miles over the San Diego Chargers.
In 2014, San Francisco caught a bit of a break, having to travel just over 20,000 miles. It ranked only seventh in distance among NFL team travel itineraries.
Now the miles have been added up, and the 49ers again have to travel more miles in 2015 than any other team in the NFL.
So, not only do the 49ers have to adjust to a new head coach in Jim Tomsula, the loss of several key veterans and the implementation of new offensive and defensive schemes, they have to leap over all those hurdles while also fending off jet leg.
The 49ers will travel an estimated 27,998 miles in 2015. As John Breech of CBS Sports noted, that’s 5,000 miles more than the Eagles, Redskins and Colts will travel combined this season.
San Francisco’s regular-season schedule will have trips to Pittsburgh, New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, Phoenix and Seattle.

Ranking right behind the 49ers in travel miles in 2015 will be the Miami Dolphins (26,452), Oakland Raiders (26,336) and Seattle Seahawks (25,086). The Eagles will travel the fewest miles, just 6,818.
In addition, Tomsula’s 49ers also have been deemed to have the third-toughest schedule of opponents in the NFL this season. They have nine games against playoff teams from 2014.
