Pittsburg Changes Name to “Teal Town” to Support Sharks First Chance at the Stanley Cup

Pittsburg, California is temporarily changing its name during the Stanley Cup Final to Teal Town, to show its support for the San Jose Sharks.

Add this new twist to the usual bets between mayors during major sports finals. The hockey fans in the Contra Costa County city didn't want to be confused with their rivals in Pennsylvania. So Pittsburg will be known as Teal Town for the duration of the NHL Final.

It sits well with fans and business owners in Pittsburg, who have named beer and smoothies after their favorite team.

Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto taunted the city that's only a fifth the size of Steel Town, Pennsylvania.

Kyle Schoenthaler, who has a Sharks sign up at his tire shop all year round, said the name change is only fitting.

“I'm proud to be born and raised in Pittsburg," he said. "But once we found out we were playing the Penguins we needed to make a change for sure so we’re very proud to be ‘Teal Town’ until this series is over.”
