Growing up in Temecula, California, Sarah Hammer broke a 12-year Olympic medal drought by U.S. track cyclists by earning two silver medals at the London Games. Hammer was a promising young cyclist in her teens, but quit the sport – even selling off her equipment – after feeling exhausted by the constant pressure of competition. Watching her peers compete in the 2004 Athens Olympics, Hammer’s appetite for racing was rejuvenated and, at 20 years old, she climbed back aboard the saddle. Now a multiple-time world track cycling champion, Hammer is at the forefront of her sport and an inspiration for track cyclists in the United States.
