A standout player since she was in high school, New York Liberty star Tina Charles has been recognized as one of the best players in the world at every stage of her career. As a senior at Christ the King High School, Charles was the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association National Player of the Year, N.Y. state’s “Miss Basketball” and was named to the McDonald’s All-American Team – all while leading her team to 57 consecutive victories. At the University of Connecticut, Charles and Olympic teammate Maya Moore led the school to back-to-back national championships, going undefeated in the process. The 6-foot-4 center became Connecticut’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder while earning recognition as the nation’s top player in 2010. Charles went on to be the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, was named the 2010 WNBA Rookie of the Year and the 2012 WNBA MVP.
