Tesla Goes to China, Announces Prices

The electric car is going to Asia

Only Tesla could go to China -- for $121,000.

Or 734,000 yuan.

That's what the Model S will run electric car buffs in China, where the Silicon Valley auto manufacturer will begin shipping electric sedans, according to reports.

That may sound like a steep increase from the U.S. base price of $81,070, but that's what it costs to tax and to ship the vehicles to the People's Republic, according to the San Francisco Business Times.

And even that is a "big risk," according to the newspaper: at that price point, customers might think that it's lower in quality.
