Concerns About Lead Levels at San Francisco Schools
Concerns about lead contamination are prompting school leaders in San Francisco to shut down drinking fountains at three schools. Samples from taps at West Portal and Malcom X elementary schools along with International High School contained elevated lead levels. The district says the problem is due to plumbing and metal leeching into the water. The actual water supply is still safe. Lead was discovered during voluntary testing. The schools will provide bottled water until the problems are fixed.
