Pie in the Sky: Space Buffs Send Food Plate into Space

A team of space enthusiasts from Sheffield, England launched a meat and potato pie into space. The stated aim of the launch was to see if the pie’s quick trip to 100,000 feet would change the molecular structure of the pie, making it quicker to eat. The group attached tracking equipment to the weather balloon and planned to analyze the data. A spokesman for the company that made the pie said he expected the food would freeze on the way up and would get cooked as it sped up on re-entry.
