Dense fog advisory issued second day in a row in Bay Area

A dense fog advisory was issued for a second consecutive morning Wednesday across much of the Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service, and the lingering fog prompted ground stops at Bay Area airports.

Initially, the advisory was in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday but was extended to 11 a.m., the weather service said.

Ground stops were issued for San Jose Mineta International Airport and Oakland International Airport due to "low ceilings," according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Visibility was expected to be a quarter-mile or less in some places, resulting in hazardous driving conditions, especially during the morning commute, the weather service said.

The dense fog advisory was in effect for the North Bay, San Francisco County, the San Francisco Bay shoreline, Santa Clara Valley and East Bay interior valleys.

The weather service advises drivers to slow down, use their headlights and leave plenty of space between their vehicle and vehicles in front of them.
