A Spare the Air alert has been extended once again through Thursday due to smog, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. The update makes it four consecutive days of bad air in the region.
High temperatures and light winds, combined with vehicle exhaust, will result in unhealthy air quality around the Bay Area, prompting an extension to the current Spare the Air alert, air district officials said Wednesday.
A Spare the Air alert is now in effect for Thursday, the fourth day in a row the region has been under the air quality alert.
The National Weather Service extended an excessive heat warning through Thursday night as well. Inland high temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s and low- to mid-100s, while coastal areas will be in the 80s to mid 90s.
