bay area weather

Forecast: heavy rain ahead this week

Colder temps are on the way Saturday morning.

NBC Universal, Inc. Meteorologist Kari Hall is tracking our first major storm of the season in the Microclimate Forecast.

MONDAY: Weekend showers will shut down into Monday morning, leading to clearing skies and possibly frosty mornings for our inland valleys over the next two mornings.

By midweek, we’ll see rain chances increase along with warmer temperatures as an atmospheric river pattern stalls for a time over the Bay Area, especially for the North Bay in the Wednesday to Thursday timeframe.

Localized flooding looks likely, and we could see some regional flooding, as well as AR-boosted rain rates increasing runoff as the ground becomes increasingly saturated. Areas south of San Francisco may initially see much less rain than the North Bay, but by Friday into Saturday, we should see higher rain rates regionwide as the cold front moves through the region.
