SUNDAY: January typically is our wettest month of the year, but for the next 7 to possibly 10 days or more, we’re settling into a drier-than-average pattern, also sometimes known as a “Mid-Winter Dry Spell.”
For the next couple of days, areas of dense fog will be the main issue, especially overnight and early morning, followed by hazy afternoon sunshine.
We’ll watch for gusty, dry offshore wind later Monday into Tuesday that may warrant wind advisories and could typically boost short-term fire danger. Thankfully, we’ve seen near to above-average rainfall to start Winter, so conditions locally, especially north of San Francisco, are doing fairly well in terms of soil/fuel moisture. However, the opposite is true in Southern California, where strong Santa Ana winds will likely lead to extreme fire danger risk to the mountains north and west of Los Angeles.
